CzechRepublic and Vietnam has cooperated for many years. The relationship promises some practical development. Vietnams progress in integration with international trade organizations is the basis to bilateral cooperation in many fields. "I am convinced that the cooperation will continue to develop" -  Mr Roman Musil, the geeÌ daffaires of Czech in Vietnam, stated in the press conference on the occasion that Czech companies participate in MTA Vietnam 2008 Exhibition (in Vietnam)

The Vietnam-Czech trade relations are in good state however, not well matched with their potential
In recent years, bilateral trade between Czech and Vietnam has had great advancement. According to statistics, the total trade exchange of the two countries in 2007 is US$ 253 million, an increase of 60.6 per cent in comparison with that in 2006. Czech&rsquos export to Vietnam is worth US$65.9 million, 132 per cent increase whereas Vietnam&rsquos export to Czech worth 187.1 per cent, up 44.9 per cent. The balance of trade is US$121.2 million

However, according to Mr Roamn Musil, geeÌ daffaires of Czech in Vietnam, the trade relationship between Czech and Vietnam still undeserves the economic and trade potential. The difference in export-product types and trade statistics evaluation methods has bad effect on the amount of import and export between the two countries. In the visit to Czech in September 2007 of Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and the visit to Vietnam in March 2007 of Minister Mirek Topolanek, both sides signed a host of agreements motivating the bilateral economic relationship. One of the most important progresses is the foundation of Czech Trade Promotion Office in Ho Chi Minh City and Czech Trade Representative Office which was officially ed last November when Minister of Industry and Commerce Martin Riman visited Vietnam. The office will help Czech companies find their market in the south Czech now have a consulate in Ho Chi Minh City.

Main imports from Czech include shoes, fish, food, metal, coffee, tea, textile, furniture, handicraft, and tropical fruits. Main exports include mechanics, textile tools, glass, milk, beer, barley, medicine, plastic and other industrial products.

Payment methods are based on free money exchange. Negotiations between the EU and Vietnam are changed in the part of the bilateral economic relationship between the two country after Czech joined EU. Agreement on Czech -Vietnam economic cooperation signed in September 2005 by Minister of Industry M. Urban and former Minister of Trade Truong Dinh Tuyen ed economic cooperation fields that didn&rsquot repy on general trade policies and EU&rsquos own trade policies (for example: economic cooperation, industrial cooperation, technical cooperation, etc) The agreement also established shared offices such as Economic Cooperation Committee with the level of Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce.

Vietnam is Czech&rsquos much priority to aid

Vietnam is one of the countries that receive aids from Czech until now. It provides humanitarian and developmental aids. Czech considers Vietnam the first prority to aid.

Czech interdepartmental delegation of cooperation paid a visit to Vietnam in the spring of 2005. Based on their own understandings, medium-term strategy of cooperation for the period 2006-2010 was prepared. This ed a new era to cooperate with Vietnam, satisfying the need of the country that received the aid. This was also the basis for foreign cooperation project of Czech in the limitation of Czech and the application of interdepartmental policies.

In Czech&lsquos strategies to cooperate with Vietnam, both countries will focus in such fields of environment, agriculture, labour and society, business protection, industrial modernization and especially, overcoming the effect of industrial toxicants (dioxide)
Czech&rsquos humanitarian aids to Vietnam played an important role when the relationship between the two countries was poor. The aid became more urgent when Czech helped solve natural disasters in South East Asia and disease such as SARS or bird flu.
