Phu My BOT Joint Stock Company Sept 9 kicked off construction of the first span of the Phu My cable-supported bridge crossing over the Sai Gon River in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam News Agency reported.
The bridge, the second largest of its kind in Vietnam, will be over 2 kilometers in length and 27.5 meters in width.
The six-lane bridge, which has a total investment capital of VND2 trillion (US$120 million), is designed to receive 100,000 vehicles per day.
The company has also been executing three other infrastructure projects, comprising one to build the beltway linking Phu My Bridge and Rach Chiec Bridge, a project to build a road junction in Saigon South and another project to develop an elevated road between Phu My Bridge and Saigon South.
Once operational, Phu My Bridge will help solve the traffic problem for people on the two sides of the Saigon River such as districts 4, 7, 2, 9, Nha Be and Binh Chanh districts, and help link up other major routes such as HCM City-Trung Luong and HCM City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay expressways.
Construction on the bridge is scheduled for completion in Oct next year, the company said. (VNA)
