The Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam (Agribank), the country’s biggest state-owned bank by assets, has decided to loan an additional VND3 trillion (US$187.5 million) to loan coffee processors and exporters in the harvest 2008-2009.
The loans will be provided for nine provinces, including VND881 billion for Dac Lac, VND268 billion for Gia Lai, VND45 billion for Kon Tum, VND155 billion for Dac Nong, VND250 billion for Quang Tri, VND40 billion for Khanh Hoa, VND300 billion for Lam Dong, VND980 billion for Agribank’s Saigon Branch, and VND81 billion for Agribank Mulberry Silkworm.
Purchasers, producers and processors in need of capital for coffee export will be subject to the loans.
Nguyen The Binh, general director of Agibank, said since the beginning of this year the bank has lent more than VND1 trillion for purchasing tra and basa catfish in Mekong Delta, VND10 trillion for buying paddy for export, VND4 trillion for importing fertilizer and VND5 trillion soft loans for import and export companies.
