Foreign Investors Seek Opportunities in Northern Province

A business delegation from 20 foreign companies Sept 20 arrived in the northern Hai Duong province to look for investment opportunities, Vietnam News Agency reported.
 
The investors, who joined the second Vietnam Economic Forum, showed their interest in the province’s areas of energy and power development, and information technology.
 
They also studied the workers’ skills, vocational training programs, and the land acreage at the local industrial zones.
 
The provincial Party Committee’s Secretary Bui Thanh Quyen pledged to offer favorable conditions for investors, especially in hi-tech projects.
 
Quyen said the province, which is now home to 10 industrial parks and 33 industrial clusters, has to date attracted 187 foreign-invested projects totaling at US$2.2 billion from 21 countries and territories.
 
On the same day, the mission visited the Dai An Industrial Zone which was built with an investment capital of VND1.3 trillion (US$812.5 million) and the Chi Linh Golf-course.
 
Hai Duong, some 50 kilometers from Hanoi capital city, is a province of the northern key economic zone that has acreage of 1,700 square kilometers and a population of 1.7 million.
 
The province has decided to revoke investment licenses of five foreign-invested enterprises worth a total capital of US$31.1 million due to their sluggish implementation of project, the Vietnam Economic Times reported said. 
 
The northern locality has set a target to absorb additional US$1 billion FDI by 2010. (VNA)
