Japan’s JFE Steel is planning to build a hi-tech steel mill with estimated investment of US$5 billion in central Quang Ngai province, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

If approved, the steel factory, to be located at Dung Quat Economic Zone on an area of 1,000 hectares of land, will have a capacity of between 6 million and 10 million tons of steel per year.

According to Akihiko Ishida, an official of JFE Steel, the mill will use advanced technology to save energy and have little impact on the environment.

The factory will produce gas and steel. The entire quantity of gas will be taken back in order to serve electricity production, part of the gas will be used to run the steel mill and the remainder will be sold to other enterprises in the economic zone as well as to local residents.

Construction and operation of the new facility will need 2,000-3,000 workers with two-thirds of skilled workers and engineers. (VNA)
