Vietnam PM Okays US$993.8Mln Phu Quoc Int'l Airport Plan

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a VND16 trillion (US$993.8 million) plan to develop the Phu Quoc International Airport the commercial and military purposes in southern Kien Giang province till 2020 with orientation to 2030, Vietnam News Agency reported.
 
Under the plan, the airport will be upgraded to meet the grade 4E standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the second level for a military airport.
 
By 2020, the airport will be capable of receiving large aircraft, including Boeing 767s or Boeing 747-400s, with a runway of 3,000m x 45 m and will have enough parking space for 27 planes.
 
Covering more than 900 hectares in the tourist island of Phu Quoc, 300 kilometers west of Ho Chi Minh City, it will be designed to handle 2.5 million passengers and 14,300 tons of cargo every year by 2020.
 
By 2030, the airport will be capable of handling 7 million passengers and 27,600 tons of cargo every year.
 
Investor and construction schedule for the airport, however, has not yet been made available. (VNA, Vietnam Economic Times)
