This is the first conference of its kind arranged in Vietnam since the country joined the International Pepper Community (IPC) March 2005.
Participants at the conference said that Vietnam is still taking the world in producing and exporting pepper.
In 2008, Vietnam is estimated to account for 30 per cent of the world’s pepper output with nearly 90,000 tons, and 50 per cent of the world’s export volume.
Vietnamese pepper has been exported to 80 countries and territories worldwide with revenue expected to reach US$310 million this year.
But Vietnamese pepper farmers, producers and exporters should boost cooperation to raise pepper quality and its competitiveness in the world market, Tran Ngoc Chau, vice chairman of the Vietnam Pepper Association noted.
In the first eleven months of 2008, Vietnam exported 86,000 tons of pepper worth US$303 million, up 11.4 per cent on year in volume and 20.35 in value. (Vietnam Agriculture, GSO Nov Edition)
