Vietnam’s apparel exports are estimated to have risen 17.4% from a year earlier to $5.87 billion between January and July, said the General Statistics Office (GSO).

In July, the country has exported $1.05 billion worth of apparel, up 15.7% on-year and 6.19% against June.

In the period, the country has imported $3.18 billion worth of cloth, up 34.3% on-year, $1.47 billion of apparel and footwear materials and accessories (+35.4%), $620 million of fiber (+47.5%), and $362 million of cotton, (+98%).

Local apparel firms reported an increasing number of export orders with prices rising between 10% and 15% on-year amid the global economic recovery.

Vu Duc Giang, director of the Vietnam Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex), said the country’s textile and garment sector loss roughly $350 million in the first half due to massive blackouts.

The unstable source of laborers also causes difficulties for apparel firms to fulfill export orders, Giang added. (GSO, Investment)
