The Vietnam Trade Center in New York has actively promoted trade activities between Vietnam and the U.S., helping more American firms to seek business opportunities in the ASEAN country, Director Nguyen Manh Hung said.

Up to 300 U.S. firm have so far this year contacted with the center to seek information about Vietnam’s market. Many of them want to order goods with large volume to provide for major retailers, like JC Penny or Macy’s, Hung said.

The center has helped to match up businesses from the two nations and coordinated with domestic agencies to organize visits not only for enterprises to study each other’s markets but also for trade experts and officials to discuss measures to boost trade and investment.

Trade between Vietnam and the U.S. is likely to surge to $18 billion this year, compared to $15.38 billion last year, an official of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Vietnam said early this month.

The Southeast Asian nation’s main exports of apparel, footwear and woodwork products will make up two thirds of its whole-year value estimated at $14.7 billion, up 19.64% on-year, Jocelyn Tran, chairwoman of the AmCham’s branch in Ho Chi Minh City said at a year-end party on Dec 7. (Vietnamplus)
