Nghe An Province: Promoting Exports
Nghe An People's Committee has recently organised a review conference on its import-export activities in 2003 and the first half of 2004.
In 2003, 63 enterprises of the province participated in import-export activities earning an export value of US$80.1 million and US$11.2 million from the tourism and shipping service. Over 30 items in the province have been exported to foreign markets. Exporters have tried to reduce the number of transactions via middlemen and 10 enterprises have exported directly to the Philippines, Laos, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia accounting for an export volume of 267,693 tonnes and 24 per cent of the total value. The export of cassava powder to China was valued at US$10 million. Items such as rice, garments, green tea, coffee, sugar, aqua-products, and wooden, bamboo and rattan articles have been exported to several countries including Europe and America.
However, the export trade of the province remains modest. According to Mr. Nguyen The Trung, Chairman of Nghe An People's Committee, the export in the second half of 2004 must be boosted to achieve the target of US$43 million by focusing on its principle products. The major exporters will be encouraged to increase their efficiency and market shares within traditional markets.
