Da Nang to Become Major Trade, Service and Tourism Centre
To build up Da Nang city into a major trade, service and tourism centre in Vietnam the city is striving to implement effective and concrete plans.
On August 3, the People’s Committee of Da Nang city developed a plan to carry out a programme on the development of tourism and services in which Da Nang already has great natural advantages.
To build the city into one of the major trade, tourism and service centres Da Nang will concentrate its investment on developing tourism with a focus on major items to turn its tourism sector into a spearhead economic sector in the city’s economy. The city is striving to receive two million visitors in 2010, earning VND1,500 billion (US$95.541 million) in revenues, an average yearly increase of between 13 and 14 per cent.
The city will also modernise its trade service so as to build Da Nang into a centre for import and export activities in the region. It will strive for an export turnover of US$1.72 billion in 2010, an average increase of 21 per cent per year. Furthermore it aims to increase its total circulation of goods and services by between 16 to 18 per cent and its total retail sales by between 15 and 17 per cent.
Da Nang will promote the development of its transport, post and telecommunication services, becoming one of the three major transport, post and telecoms centres in Vietnam. Accordingly, the city will link with other countries within the East-West Corridor. The city will also complete major roads to further develop tourism, upgrading the Tien Sa Seaport from 4.5 million tonnes to five million tonnes and the Song Han Port with to a capacity of more than one million tonnes per year. The city will build the Da Nang-Dung Quat railway line and complete the construction and upgrading of the Da Nang airport to a capacity of four million passengers per year. Concerning post and telecommunication services, the city will strive to provide these services to all the local population by 2010 with each family having one telephone and all communes having newspapers within the day.
