University of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Strengthening Int’l Cooperation and Improving Training Quality

Established in 2006, University of Ba Ria - Vung Tau has been training human resources with high quality, good moral character, and qualifications to serve the needs in areas of economy like modern technologies. The university also focuses on marine technology and economy, conducts scientific research, transfers technology, and implements international cooperation. It has step by step approached the quality standards of regional and international education, contributing to meeting the diverse human resources needs for the industrialization and modernization of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the southern key economic region and for the whole country’s international integration.
 
The school has three training centres in Vung Tau city, meeting requirements for training 10,000 students. In 2013, the university will start the construction of the major facility covering an area of nearly 10 hectares in District 11, Vung Tau city with modern equipment, meeting the education scale of 20,000 students in the coming years. The university is currently having students enrolling universities, colleges in the following fields: Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology, Food Technology, Accounting, Business Administration, Eastern Study, English Language. Some fields given top priority are Marine Technology and Economy, support industries including Logistics Management, Supply Chain, Tourism Management, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Mechanical Fabrication, etc. The number of staff and visiting lecturers of the university is currently over 400, of which over 70 percent have postgraduate degrees, and many others are professors, associate professors, and doctors.
 
The university is implementing the program of international cooperation including: English Program for studying abroad at such locations as the Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC), USC and Lee College – the United States, Heriot Watt – the United Kingdom, or Charles Darwin – Australia. The university is in cooperation with STC group of the Netherlands in training the program of logistics and supply chain. There is a special joint training program of Bachelor of Business Administration with City University of Seattle – the United States, in which curriculum and qualified faculty from City University and the University of Ba Ria-Vung Tau. Students enrolling in this program study three years in Vietnam and one year in the United States or the UK or Canada.
 
As for the major of Japanese Studies, the university has trained more than 200 university and college students, in which 95 students have already graduated. In recent years, the university has received very effective support and assistance from some Japanese scientists and intellectuals. Particularly, three Japanese female intellectuals in their work at Vung Tau have given lectures to the university’s students. Professor Hitokoto Noriyuki, University of Tokyo, delivered a special talk on “typical features of Japanese business management". Mr Toh Goda, honoured professor of the University of Kobe taught the field of Japanese culture. Remarkably, in the 2010-2011 school year, two students were given short-term scholarships to visit and study in Japan by the International Foundation of Japan in Vietnam and Professor Hitiko.
 
In addition to the training programs of high quality human resources to meet the needs of society, the school is giving annual scholarships and rewards to students worth VND 1 billion, which was taken from the budget of the University and from the support of several businesses and sponsors.
 
Located in the southern key economic region of Vietnam, Ba Ria-Vung Tau is considered a centre for developing an important deepwater port towards the establishment of Cai Mep International transshipment port and supporting industry zone, providing products for the whole country. Japan is now the leading strategic investor interested in the project. These are favourable conditions for Ba Ria-Vung Tau University to develop training to meet human needs at local level, create employment opportunities, and make itself the ideal study destination for students nationwide.
