Can Tho City is carrying out a project to culture and process seafood from now to 2020. The city targets US$900 million by 2015 and US$1.6 billion in 2020, with the key markets being Asia, Europe and North America.
Accordingly, the city will expand its aquaculture area from 13,000 ha in 2013 to 26,000 ha by 2020, and thus increase production output from 200,000 tonnes to more than 400,000 tonnes. Major culturing localities will be Vinh Thanh, Phong Dieu, Thoi Lai, Co Do, Thot Not, O Mon and Cai Rang districts.
