Hanoi Promoting Agricultural Products

In order to help Hanoi agricultural products stand firm in the market and improve economic efficiency for farmers, Hanoi Farmers’ Union (HFU) has built the programme “Improving quality of building trademark for, promoting and consuming farm produce in 2014 - 2018”.

It is considered an optimal solution for farmers to positively apply science, technology to create high quality products which are environment-friendly and healthy.

Lack of sustainable links
In recent years, thanks to new technology application; positive restructuring of plants, animals husbandry, Hanoi has managed to form effective agricultural areas like organic vegetable areas; areas for Canh oranges, Dien grapefruits, flowers and plants, poultry, beef, milk cows in Dong Anh, Tu Liem, Dan Phuong, Ba Vi and Me Linh districts. Therefore, farmers and enterprises gradually establish producer – processor - consumer links. However, the links seem to be not quite effective, not yet sustainable, sometimes resulting in failure to complete contracts.

Ms Le Thi Toan, Chairwoman of Phuc Tho District Farmers’ Union said that farmers are frequently confident in their products, but they cannot build their trademark, failing to make their products known. Actually, Phuc Tho District has not been able to spread its clean pig production (pig production on bio-based pads) because of absence of the link between enterprises and farmers.

To solve these problems, the HFU has coordinated with responsible authorities to transfer scientific, technological applications to farmers and construct producing – processing – consuming models. Many effective models are developing effectively like sanitary pig production in a biological way in Ung Hoa, Phu Tho districts; growing vegetables under IPM – GAP in Soc Son, Ba Vi, Phuc Tho, My Duc, Thanh Oai districts; safe fruit production in Long Bien, Hoai Duc, Bac Tu Liem, Nam Tu Liem and Dan Phuong. The HFU has also introduced enterprises to exhibit products for farmers. However, till now, Hanoi has successfully built only 2 trademarks including Soc Son organic vegetables and Dan Phuong “tom vang” grapefruit.

Many practical solutions
Mr Trinh The Khiet, Chairman of HFU said that to achieve targets of upgrading Hanoi agricultural product quality and promoting the marketing of products, HFU will have more supports for farmers. Accordingly, the Union will organise short-term training courses on constructing, registering, protecting and developing agricultural product trademarks, as well as marketing skills for all the staffs and members. Besides, the Union has cooperated with the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam to guide farmers to register their agricultural product trademarks. The Union will also actively set up delegations of competent staff and farmers to study markets, search for partners in foreign countries.

To find a stable consumption source for agricultural products, the Union is expected to organise more events, introduce support policies. It is also supposed to actively cooperate with enterprises to hold trading promotion conventions so that farmers can have opportunities to meet enterprises, search for partners and sell their products.
