Yen Bai Printing Enterprise is a State-run enterprise under the management of the Yen Bai Provincial People’s Committee. The enterprise specialises in printing documents related to economics, culture, national security and defence for the province. Its major products include Yen Bai Newspaper, journals and magazines, political, social and economic documents and forms.
The enterprise’s revenues increase year after year. The enterprise printed 221 million pages in 2001 and 240 million pages in 2004, gaining a turnover of VND2.65 billion (US$165,625) to VND2.78 (US$173,750), respectively. Its average income increased from VND565,000 (US$35.31) to VND740,000 (US$46.25) and its profit grew from VND27 million (US$1687.5) to VND143 million (US$8,937.5) in respective years.
However, the enterprise is now facing a fierce competition in the province where there are over 30 printing and service factories. In addition, the enterprise has many untrained and weak workers. As a result, its labour productivity and product quality is quite low.
To improve the business and production capacity and meet the increasing demand, the Yen Bai Printing Enterprise is downsizing its workforce from 71 workers to 46, who will enjoy higher and more stable salaries.
