Bac Giang province is 50 km North of Hanoi, with an area of 3,822 sq. kilometres, 9 districts and Bac Giang city. The population is over 1.5 million with 26 ethnic nationalities including Kinh, Tay, Nung, San Chi. San Diu, Hoa, Dao, etc. living in 229 communes and wards. The workforce is 950,000 people.
The province has a network of roads, rivers and railways linking with other Northern provinces, as well as stable supply of power and water, and a developed system of telecommunication and banking. It has plenty of land for industrial development, many areas of natural beauty and cultural and historical relics for tourism.
Achievements in 2001-2005 :
· GDP annual growth rate of 8.3 per cent ( 5 per cent in agriculture, forestry and fisheries, 20.2 per cent in industry-construction, and 7.2 per cent in service).
· Economic structure : agriculture, forestry and fisheries : 43.3 per cent, industry-construction: 22.6 per cent, service : 34.1 per cent.
· Food output : 580,000 tonnes.
· Export value : US$55 million.
· Birth-rate reduction : 0.03 per cent; population growth : less than 1.1 per cent.
· Trained workforce 24 per cent, 17,500 jobs created.
2006-2010 objectives :
· GDP annual growth rate : 10-11 per cent (industry-construction : 21-22 per cent; agriculture, forestry and fisheries : 4-4.2 per cent; service : 8.5-9 per cent).
· Economic structure by 2010 will be : industry-construction : 36 per cent; agriculture, forestry and fisheries : 33 per cent; service : 31 per cent.
· GDP per capita VND8.7 million (equivalent of US$560).
· Agricultural production value : VND33-34 million per hectare a year.
· Export value increases 15-17 per cent a year amounting to US$120-150 million.
· Birth-rate : 1.08 per cent.
