Nguyen Thanh Binh, general director of Vinashin, said the shipyard will make its first vessel in late 2007.
The State-backed Vinashin has recently begun construction on several shipyards along the coastline of Vietnam.

On December 1, Vinashin also kicked off the construction on Cam Ranh Shipyard, costing VND2,500 billion ($159 million), in central Khanh Hoa province.
In late November, Vinashin commenced building Thinh Long Shipyard, costing VND595 billion ($37.65 million), in northern Nam Dinh province.
In an effort to modernize and raise the capacity of the Vietnamese shipbuilding industry, Vinashin has planned to invest $3 billion from now to 2015 to build new shipyards and upgrade existing ones. The corporation has set up shipbuilding complexes in Haiphong City, Hai Duong, Nam Dinh, Thanh Hoa, Quang Ninh and Quang Ngai and Ba Ria Vung Tau provinces.
