Dong Nai is one of the Southeast’s dynamic and developing provinces, especially in industry and trade. The province’s industry and trade sector has advanced constant innovation, boosted strong growth and made important contributions to economic growth and international integration in recent years.

Steady growth, central role

In the Dong Nai economic structure, the industrial sector always holds a key position, accounts for a high share of GRDP and creates jobs for hundreds of thousands of workers. The concentration of tenants in industrial parks (IPs) has created a competitive and sustainable development environment.

Phuoc An Port, on the banks of the Thi Vai River, is the  largest seaport in Dong Nai province

At present, Dong Nai province is leading the country in IP development with 48 IPs approved for establishment, including 32 IPs in operation and four under construction. Tenants in IPs are largely engaged in processing, manufacturing, mechanical engineering and electronics fields. The local supporting industry has gradually developed to supply inputs and components for automobile, electronics and mechanical engineering industries, and helped enhance corporate competitiveness.

Along with industry, the trade - service sector has also grown robustly. The province's traditional and modern retail distribution system comprises 137 markets (including Dau Giay Agricultural and Food Wholesale Market), 12 supermarkets, five shopping centers and 314 convenience stores, in addition to e-commerce platforms to meet the growing demand of the people.

Moreover, Dong Nai province is actively developing logistics services and supply chains, helping optimize the circulation of goods, reducing transportation costs and enhancing economic efficiency. At the same time, the province is actively promoting e-commerce, connecting Dong Nai province's e-commerce platform (ecdn.vn) as a branch for hangviet.vn to bring local goods to new markets and elevate brand positions.

Dong Nai is an exporter, accounting for 6 - 8% of the country’s total exports. The province always ranks 6th or 7th largest exporter in Vietnam. Its key exports include footwear, apparel, wood furniture, computers, electronic products and components, machinery, equipment, rubber and agricultural products. Its major export markets are the United States, China, Japan and South Korea.

Every year, Dong Nai organizes many domestic and overseas trade events to expand its export markets. The province speeds up exports by increasing its deeply processed items and strongly developing key exports and new competitive ones. The locality also bolsters cooperation and information exchange with trade promotion agencies in the region, trade counselors in some countries and foreign organizations to expand and develop its distribution and export systems. In particular, Dong Nai-based companies have embraced opportunities from free trade agreements to expand markets and increase the value of export products.

Developing green industries, renewable energy

Dong Nai is making efforts to develop green industries and renewable energy (energy from waste and solar power) in response to sustainable development and environmental protection trends. Many companies have invested in applying energy-efficient production measures to reduce energy costs and CO2 emissions each year; and researched and invested in renewable and clean energy programs, clean production technologies and rooftop solar power systems.

Businesses have developed renewable energy for production, invested in biomass electricity from agricultural by-products and waste, green hydrogen energy and rooftop solar power which generate clean energy for industries while opening up new investment opportunities in the future.

According to the Dong Nai Provincial Plan for 2021-2030, with vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister, Dong Nai will prioritize developing some key industries, new technologies and advanced industries like aviation, semiconductor, chip, artificial intelligence, automation equipment, information technology equipment, mechanical engineering, chemical and electronics industries.

In trade and services, Dong Nai plans to have 35 commercial centers and 32 supermarkets, expand a petroleum depot (Phuoc Khanh Petroleum Depot), build new petroleum depots with a total scale of 604,800 cubic meters, four logistics centers (one in Trang Bom district, one in Nhon Trach district and two in Long Thanh district). Especially when the Long Thanh International Airport is put into operation, the province will focus on attracting investment into free trade zones, exhibition and convention centers, trade and service centers, supermarkets, convenience stores, Cosco and logistics centers.

In energy and electricity, Dong Nai is calling for investment funds for renewable energy and clean energy projects: Phu Tan 1 hydropower plant (covering 107.98 ha in Thanh Son and Phu Tan communes, Dinh Quan district and Phu Thinh and Ta Lai communes, Tan Phu district), Thac Troi hydropower plant (49.8 ha in Phu Ngoc and Gia Canh communes, Dinh Quan district and Xuan Bac commune, Xuan Loc district), Vinh Tan waste-to-power facility (12 ha in Vinh Tan commune, Vinh Cuu district), Quang Trung waste-to-energy facility (3.17 ha in Quang Trung commune, Thong Nhat district), Dong Nai W2E waste-to-energy plant - first phase (5.5 ha in Bau Can commune, Long Thanh district), and Dinh Quan waste-to-energy plant - first phase (9.45 ha in Tuc Trung commune, Dinh Quan district).
