Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved the opening of a direct flight between Ha Noi and Japan's Kansai region.

The PM assigned the Ministry of Planning and Investment to prepare for the launch of the flight, expected to aid in boosting economic and investment cooperation between the two countries.

He made the comments while hosting a reception honoring Chairman Yoshihisa Akiyama and other members of the Kansai Economic Federation (Kankeiren), in Ha Noi, on April 16.

The Kankeiren federation is comprised of 40 leaders of big companies involved in a wide range of spheres, such as finance and banking, IT, electronics, telecommunications, and export and import.

The PM said he was very pleased with the growing ties between Vietnam and Japan, which were further strengthened by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's State visit to Vietnam and subsequent establishment of a strategic partnership status.

Yoshihisa Akiyama told the reception that his delegation is attracted to investment in the areas of IT, biotechnology and supportive industries in Vietnam.

The delegation is expected to attend the Vietnam-Japan Economic Forum, slated for April 17, in Ha Noi, the Kankeiren Chairman said.

During the visit, a Kansai business opened a representative office in Ha Noi to prepare for the construction of a liquefied gas plant in Vietnam.

Vietnam-Japan two-way trade last year reached US$8 billion. Japan ranks fourth among 76 countries and territories investing in Vietnam, with investment capital up to US$938 million. (VNA)
