Vinashin to Start Operating $17.7 Mln Seaport in Central Region

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung November 14 decided to transfer management rights of Chan May seaport in central Thua Thien Hue province to Vinashin Business Group (Vinashin), Thanh Nien newspaper reported Thursday.
 
PM Dung assigned the Ministry of Finance to coordinate with Vinashin and related parties to conduct the transference, said the source.
 
Vinashin will have rights to run business on the VND284.3 billion ($17.7 million) and will have to pay for Thue Thien Hue province's budget VND5.5 billion ($34,000).
 
According to Vinashin CEO Pham Thanh Binh, the state run business group planned to invest $1.5 billion to build a north-south express ship route facilitating travel between the north and the south.
 
So far, Vinashin has picked three ports to serve this route namely Hon Gai Port in northern Quang Ninh province, Chan May Port in central Thua Thien- Hue province, and Saigon Port in southern Ho Chi Minh City, Binh noted, adding that his company will need up to $4 billion for business expansion from 2007 to 2010.
