Vinacomin Targets 60 Mln Tons of Coal by 2015

The Vietnam National Coal & Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) said it plans churn out 60 million tons of coal each year by 2015, up 150% from current.

Vinacomin will open from seven to ten new coal mines to produce an additional 1.5 million-2 million tons annually in the 2008-2015 period, General Director Tran Xuan Hoa was quoted by the Vietnam News as saying.

The country’s top miner now produces 40 million tons each year, just enough for local consumption and exports, the newspaper noted.

is estimated to reserve 10 billion tons of coal at 300 meters in depth in the northern Quang Ninh province and hundreds of billions of tons at 1,000 meters in depth in the Red River region, added the state run newspaper.
