Vietnam to Export 1st Blue Dragon Fruit to the U.S. late August

The Vietnam Fruit Association said it is preparing to ship two first containers of blue dragon fruits to the U.S. late August or early September.
 
The Queen Blue Dragon Fruit Co Ltd, and the Fruit Experiment Co. in central Binh Thuan province, the biggest blue dragon fruit growing area in Vietnam, will carry out the exports, while the Son Son Co. Ltd will take responsibility for sterilizing the fruit by radiating method.
 
Binh Thuan now has more than 10,000 hectares under blue dragon fruit cultivation, with total output of 200,000 tons per annum. Of the area, nearly 130 hectares are cultivated according to the Global Good Agriculture Practices.
 
Japanese companies are now very interested in the fruit. Osaka-based companies have expressed interest in a Vietnamese exporting company. Japanese companies have built a facility that kills germs on the fruit using heat. (Saigon Liberation, Vinanet)
