The Japanese-invested Canon Vietnam Co. Ltd August 22 commissioned a laser beam printer factory in northern Bac Ninh province, the largest of its kind in the world, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
The facility is capable of turning out 14.4 million products annually.
Covering 60 hectares at the Que Vo Industrial Park, the factory is expected to make up some 35 per cent of the world’s demand for laser beam printers.
Once operational, the factory will generate jobs for 6,500 people. The number of workers is expected to increase to 10,000 people by 2011.
At present, Canon is providing more than 50 per cent of the world’s total printer output.
After five years of operation, the Que Vo Industrial Park has attracted more than 60 domestic and foreign investors with a total registered investment capital of over US$663 million, said Dang Thanh Tam, General Director of the Kinh Bac Urban Development Joint Stock Company. (VNA)
