Mekong Delta Kien Giang province has licensed Holcim Vietnam to invest US$656 million in producing clinker in the locality, the Thoi Bao Kinh Te newspaper reported.

The investment is to build the production line No.2 of the Hon Chong cement plant, the newspaper said.

The facility is designed to have a capacity of 10,000 tons of clinker per day.

Once operational, the new production line will raise Holcim Vietnam’s total capacity to 14,500 tons a day, or seven million tons of cement per year, doubling its current capacity.

The project is scheduled to be kicked off in January 2009. (Vietnam Economic Times)
