Vietnam notched up US$597 million from shipping 109,000 tons of cashew nuts abroad in the first eight months of 2008, up 49.5 per cent on year in value and 12 per cent in volume, the General Statistics Office said.
In August, the country exported 19,000 tons worth US$103 million, up from 16,870 tons, but down from US$104.32 million in July, the General Customs Department said.
But the figures in August showed on year rises of 11.8 per cent in volume and 42.8 per cent in value against the same month of last year.
The department said the cashew nut export revenue will sharply rise by the end of this year thanks to high prices, which were averaging at US$6,180 a ton in June 2008.
Big Vietnam’s cashew nut importers were Australia, Britain, Russia, and Germany. (Vinanet)
