The U.S. Department of Commerce’s decision to remove only 4 Vietnamese shrimp exporting companies out of anti-dumping duty list disappointed Vietnamese firms, General Secretary of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), Truong Dinh Hoe said.

Hoe said the taxes of 4.57 per cent imposed on shrimp products exported by 23 companies and 25.76 per cent by the remaining will cause difficulties to Vietnam seafood exporting industry.

“This was an unexpected result because on primary decision, the DOC had set a zero tax on products of 28 Vietnamese companies,” Hoe said.

“The final ruling will make Vietnamese shrimp less competitive than that offered by Thailand and India because the two countries’ exporters are taxed at lower anti-dumping rate,” he added.

Currently, DOC set 1.69 per cent tax on Indian shrimp products and the rate on Thais shrimp is 3.18 per cent.

But the VASEP said the DOC’s decision will not prevent the U.S. companies from importing Vietnamese shrimps.

The association believed that shrimp exports will bring in US$1.5 billion in revenue to Vietnam this year. (Vietnamnet)
