The Credit Information Center (CIC) under the State Bank of Vietnam in partnership with leading global credit rating corporation Dun&Bradstreet Sept 16 announced the ratings of top 20 listed firms on the two stock exchanges.

A total of 117 of 293 listed companies in Vietnam scored the highest possible ranking for credit worthiness last year, marking an increase of 23.16 per cent over 2006.

The rankings are built mainly on state-audited financial reports, banking loans and non-financial services.

"We aim to provide investors with adequate information on listed firms through the ratings, although they are not perfect," said Dao Quang Thong, deputy director of CIC.

"Traders were thirsty for information, especially from reliable sources. Thus, market transparency will be raised (through the ratings)," said Cao Sy Kiem, chairman of Vietnam Association of Small & Medium-sized Enterprises.
