Eight EU organizations including consumers, retailers and manufacturers have protested against the imposition of antidumping tax on leather shoe imports from Vietnam, state media said.
Le Danh Vinh, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade said that the organizations had cited high inflation and economic recession as reasons why the EU should not continue the antidumping tax policy against Vietnam.
Among the eight organizations were the Organization of European Consumers; Organization of European Trade; Association of European Fashion Retailers; and the Association of European Sports Apparel Manufacturers.
Vinh said the EU Consulting Committee on antidumping tax discussed the issue on Sept 17.
Fifteen out of the 27 EU members had protested the review of the tax on Vietnamese shoes.
EU High Commissions will further discuss and come to a decision on the matter in the near future, Vinh said.
