Vietnam government has decided to invest VND4 trillion in the construction of 40 new irrigational systems in Central Highlands region, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
The new works will help raise the region’s irrigational capacity to 287,000 hectares by 2010.
Central highlands provinces currently have more than 1,800 small and medium-sized irrigational works to provide water for nearly 150,000 hectares of crop plants.
The construction of new irrigation works in the Central Highlands region not only serve cultivation but also provide water for the daily use of local ethnic groups.
Central highlands are home to a number of crops with high economic value like coffee, rubber, cashew, pepper, and tea. (VNA)
