Vietnamese seafood companies, including Saigon-Mekong Co. Ltd (SAMEFICO) and Cadovimex II Seafood Im-Export JSC (Cadovimex II) have asked the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) to review its antidumping duty on their products, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

According to the Federal Register, examination time for the two companies will be from August 1, 2007 to July 31, 2008.

SAMEFICO and Cadovimex II said they did not export pangasius catfish to the U.S. while the DOC was taking examination on Vietnamese pangasius catfish export.

They also did not join hands with any catfish exporting companies during the examination time.

The Vietnamese companies have sent almost all of vouchers relating to their first exports to the U.S. like export volume, depart date, and arrival date.

The DOC said it will announced preliminary ruling of the examination within 180 days since it started, and the final ruling will be announced within 90 days after the preliminary ruling.

Currently, the DOC is imposing 63.88 per cent tax on catfish products exported by the two companies.

Only 3 companies, including the East Sea Seafoods Joint Venture Co Ltd (ESS), QVD Dong Thap Food Limited Company (QVD Food Co) and Anvifish Co Ltd, are exempted from the tax. (Vasep)
