Southern Dong Nai province’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment has asked provincial authorities to suspend operations 19 out of 22 industrial zones (IZs) for failures to install concentrated wastewater treatment facilities, the Lao Dong newspaper said on December 1.
The IZs including Ho Nai, Song May, Bau Xeo, Thanh Phu, Ong Keo, Nhon Trach 3, Xuan Loc, Nhon Trach 2-Loc An, Nhon Trach 5, Agtex-Long Binh, Dinh Quan and Textile Nhon Trach Bien Hoa 1, Bien Hoa 2, Long Thanh, Amata, Loteco, Tam Phuoc and Nhon Trach 1 will be halted from Jan 1, 2009 until they build and upgrade the wastewater treatment systems that meet Vietnam’s environmental regulations, the newspaper said.
The 22 IZs discharge 68,000 cubic meters of wastewater a day and two thirds of which are poured directly into the environment. (Labor)
