Vietnam is expected to earn $6.1 billion from garment and textile exports to the U.S. in 2010, rising 22% from a year earlier, given the country’s strong growth in the first three quarters.

The figure will account for 55% of Vietnam’s total apparel export revenues this year and 43.5% of its export sum to the U.S.

Vietnam exported $4.506 billion worth of garments and textiles to the North American country between Jan and Sept, up 22.1% on-year, the Dien Dan Doanh Nghiep newspaper said, citing statistics released at a recent seminar on Vietnam’s exports to the U.S. held in Ho Chi Minh City.

The U.S. is now the largest importer of Vietnamese garments and textiles, and Vietnam has surpassed India to become the second largest supplier of these products to the U.S.

This year, Vietnam is expected to earn $11 billion from garment and textile exports, around $500 million higher than its initial target.

The country is forecast to fetch $14 billion from exports to the U.S. this year.
