Hanoi: A Major Trade Center by 2020

Hanoi will become Vietnam’s centre for import-export, wholesale and services by 2020. The target was recently announced at the working day between Trade Minister Truong Dinh Tuyen and the city’s authorities to discuss solutions to develop the city’s trade sector from now until 2020.

Nguyen Quoc Trieu, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, affirmed that the capital city will adjust its master plan for trade development, with top priority given to the expansion of markets, supermarkets and trade centre networks, the development of outlets for products, and the boosting of export strategies and trade promotions by 2010.

The chairman also asked the trade minister to cooperate and support the city to build technical infrastructure for trade development, to focus on developing products with large export values and high growth rates, and to connect activities of the ministry’s enterprises operating in Hanoi to trade activities of the city.

The trade minister committed to offer financial assistance to build an information centre and regularly provide information to facilitate trade activities in the city.

Hanoi now has seven large-scale commercial centres, 53 supermarkets trading in 10,000-15,000 items, and about 1,000 enterprises specialised in export activities.
