Da Nang has been selected to receive one of ten ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable Cities Awards 2011, reported the city’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment recently. The awards ceremony will take place at the upcoming ASEAN Summit in Indonesia on 23 November.
Da Nang is the only city in Vietnam to receive this honourable award this year. It comes as a result of the city’s initial achievements as it works towards becoming an environmentally-friendly city by 2020.
In 2011 the ASEAN member countries endorsed 10 different ASEAN cities to receive its awards, and 6 others earned Certificates of Recognition for potential sustainable city developments. The decision was made at the 9th meeting of the ASEAN Working Group on Environmentally Sustainable Cities which was held in Yangon, Myanmar, from 2 to 4 May this year.
