Can Tho Urbanisation to Reach 70-75 Pct by 2020

According to the Can Tho City adjusted Master Plan to 2030, with a vision to 2050, recently approved by the Prime Minister, by 2020, the population of Can Tho City will reach 1.5 - 1.6 million, of which urban population will account for some 1.2 million, and the urbanisation rate will reach 70 - 75 percent. By 2030, the population is expected to climb to 2 million, including 1.5 - 1.6 million urban citizens, and the urbanisation rate will be 75 - 80 percent.

 

The city will be divided into four development regions: Downtown (26,250 ha) for urban and industrial development, suburbs (750 ha) for urban and industrial development, countryside (100,500 ha) for agricultural development, and green spaces (10,100 ha) for open space development like theme parks.

 

The city will complete the construction of artery roads like Ho Chi Minh - Can Tho route, Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang route, Can Tho - Ca Mau route and Ho Chi route while building bridges over the Hau River in Thot Not and O Mon districts as well as Ho Chi Minh - Can Tho express railway.
