Quang Nam Province's Strengths in Tourism
Tourism is a spearhead economic sector of Quang Nam province with an average growth rate of 30 per cent in the 2001-2003 period. Revenues from tourism reached VND 160 billion (about US$10.152 million) in 2003 - the highest to date. The number of visitors to Quang Nam province continued to see a high increase in the first months of this year with about 400,000 visitors. Quang Nam has now 68 hotels with 2,448 tourist-grade rooms.
While Quang Binh province has concentrated on exploiting eco-tourism services and the world heritage site of Phong Nha-Ke Bang, Quang Tri province has great advantages in its historical relic sites, and Hue has an ancient imperial city, Quang Nam province has a harmonious combination of cultural and historical sites along with ecological and festival tourism. Visitors go to Quang Nam province not only to see historical and cultural relic sites but also to participate in local traditional festivals. This requires the province's tourism service to consider the organisation of interesting tours to attract visitors. With some major festivals, namely 'Quang Nam festival – world heritage route' and 'Vietnam-Japan cultural exchange festival,' some new tours have developed. These include a one day tour to the Tra Que vegetable growing village, the bronze casting village of Phuoc Kieu and the carpentry village of Kim Bong, and fishing tours in Phu Ninh to create a link between local activities and the development of local tourism.
Alongside the development of new tours, infrastructure facilities in Quang Nam province have been developed rapidly. Vu Ngoc Hoang, secretary of the Quang Nam Party Committee, said that in 2002 and 2003, Quang Nam province developed 46 projects in tourism. Some new tourist sites, such as Cat Vang resort and Le Domain De Tam Hai, are under construction. To serve the development strategy of tourism, Quang Nam province has invested capital from its budget and co-operated with tourism training schools, to develop better services for visitors.
