Ca Mau Eyes US$2 Bln from Shrimp Export

Ca Mau province expects to raise shrimp on 280,000 ha, harvest 280,000 tonnes and earn US$2 billion from exports annually by 2020, said the Ca Mau Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The province is rearing shrimps on 278,000 ha, including nearly 400 ha of super-intensive farms which yield 22 tonnes per hectare per crop. Ca Mau aims to raise the output of super-intensive farms to 22,000 tonnes by 2020 and 50,000 tonnes by 2030 (with 2,000 ha). By 2020, Ca Mau will expand the area of ecological shrimp farms under forest canopies to 27,800 ha and over 10,000 ha of certified ecological shrimp farms. In addition, the province will also enlarge the area of extensive farming and mixed farming of shrimps to 100,000 ha and ecological shrimp farming area on rice fields to 53,000 ha.
