The Yen Bai Cement Joint stock Company is considered to have the three conditions for development. This is because it has abundant materials including stones in the Mong Son mine and clay in the Xuan Lan mine with a reserves of millions of tonnes. Also, it is located near Thac Ba lake, bordered by four provinces, Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang and Phu Tho. Its 1,000 staff members have the same determination for the company’s development.

Established in 1980 with a standing kiln cement production line made in with a capacity of 5,000 tonnes per year, the plant made a significant contribution to the reconstruction of the country, especially infrastructure facilities in Hoang Lien Son and other localities nearby, with its cement products under the brand ‘Phu Thinh.’ In 1991, the Yen Bai cement plant applied modern technology developed by the Construction Material Research Institute to improve the quality of its products and increase its production capacity to 20,000 tonnes per year. The plant, therefore, has found a foothold in the market and its products were used in the construction of the Noi Bai international airport’s terminals, the Thang Long highway and the Ben Thuy bridge.

In 1995, the Yen Bai cement plant invested over VND 30 billion in upgrading its production line, using the Chinese-developed standing kiln technology, with a capacity of 60,000 tonnes per year. This was a modern semi-automation production line, which could be used to manufacture high quality PC40 cement products. In June 1996, the production line began operation when many standing kiln cement plants were facing many difficulties in selling their products. The plant’s products, however, were sold out. Cement workers in Yen Bai were be proud to see their products used in 90 per cent of local construction works, including offices, roads, canals, bridges and hospitals, and in many other localities.

In 2004, the company continued to increase its capability of producing CaCO3 by installing a super soft grinding production line made in with a capacity of 18,000 tonnes per year. This helped the company increase its grinding capacity to 40,000 tonnes per year. This was an important project for the plant, helping it manufacture high quality products.

At the same time, the company has promoted its investment in increasing stone mining output. It upgraded the clinker kiln and installed one more material grinding production line, increasing its capacity from 120,000 tonnes per year to 150,000 tonnes per year. The company explored a 19-hectare mine to ensure stable material supplies. At the same time, it has promoted the computerisation of material testing, helping adjust its production every hour in the production line. As a result, the company’s kiln had its capacity increased by between 10 and 15 per cent, reaching 150 tonnes per day. Each year, the company increases its output by 10,000 tonnes, reducing fuel consumption and increasing competitiveness in the market.

To that end, the company has taken many measures, encouraging its staff members to develop their creativity in production. The company organises regular internal examination and auditing activities.

In market development, the company has promoted marketing and promotional activities, introducing CaCO3 products at trade fairs and exhibitions. As a result, the company’s products have become popular in domestic and international markets. So far, the company has developed a wide network of agents. It has signed contracts with partners in the north and the south to sell super soft CaCO3 products.

To create and build up its prestige with customers, the company has maintained material and product quality examination. Its cement and CaCO3 products have been awarded with a gold medal for high quality Vietnamese goods. Its cement products also received a certificate of meeting the Quacert standard. The ISO 9001:2000 quality management system has been applied for the production and supplying of CaCO3.

To be successful, the company has always focused on developing human resources and improving working conditions. Accordingly, the company has organised training courses on labour safety and implementing measures to manage dynamites. The company organises regular medical check-ups for its staff members and in return staff members have made great efforts to contribute to the development of the company.
