The meeting will bring together ten ASEAN ministers and four dialogue partners (China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, India) as well as high-ranking officials from telecommunications bodies, policy-making organisations, telecom and IT companies in the region.
The theme will be: “Promote the development of services and application of e-ASEAN network.” According to the organisers, apart from common issues on information and communication technology (ICT) development, ministers will discuss measures and methods of building a favourable environment, expanding internet access, developing e-services, human resources and regional cooperation to boost the e-ASEAN initiative, trade and investment for ICT in the region.
Vietnam will also organise its 14th Vietnam IT Week in tandem with the conference, from September 26 to October 3 at the Giang Vo Exhibition Centre, Hanoi.
Fourteen ASEAN telecommunications and information technology ministers will take part in the opening ceremony, sending an official message on the plan to implement the e-ASEAN initiative. The fifth ASEAN TELMIN and 14th IT Week will be connected through a meeting on September 29 between government officials and telecommunication-IT companies in the region.
