In a response to the great campaign for the poor led by the Fatherland Front, Military Telecommunications Corporation (Viettel) launched the “Viettel - Vietnamese Heart” Fund, a charity fund, in Hanoi on July 25, 2005.

This fund provides financial assistances for the poor, war victims, natural disaster victims, patients and other disadvantaged people. The “Viettel - Vietnamese Heart” Fund operates on the voluntary and public basis. Vietnam Television (VTV) is responsible for managing the fund and VTV is required to spend all input money correctly. Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Deputy Director of Viettel, said “The contribution to Viettel - Vietnamese Heart Fund is go inline with our business philosophy “technology for people” that Viettel is pursuing. Aside from paying at least VND50 million (US$3,125) a month, Viettel will contribute to the Fund by money collected from selling “easy-to-remember” mobile phone numbers (Viettel Mobile 098 network).”

On the launching day, the “Viettel - Vietnamese Heart” Fund will present 15 TV sets worth early VND3 million (US$190) each to 15 poor families.
