Bac Giang province is next door to the Northern key economic zone, 50 km north of Hanoi, 100 km south of Huu Nghi Quan border gate with China, 55 km from Noi Bai International airport and 120 km west of Haiphong seaport. The province has a population of 1.56 million people and an area of 3,822 sq. kilometres.

Bac Giang has 123,000 hectares of agricultural land and 110,000 hectares of forestry land. The tropical monsoon climate is most favourable for the development of agriculture, forestry and aquaculture. The province is known as homeland of litchi fruit with an area of over 33,000 hectares (the biggest in Vietnam) and output of over 150,000 tonnes a year, together with over 12,000 hectares of other fruits, rich resources for processing industry. It has also several tourist attractions such as Mo stream, lakes of Cam Son and Khuon Than, Ro reserves, pagodas of Vinh Nghiem and Tien Luc, Phon Xuong citadel.

The province has a young and industrious workforce of over 870,000 people, including over 24 per cent of trained workers meeting the demand of enterprises. The average economic growth rate in 2001-2004 was 8.3 per cent. The infrastructure has been improved including road, railway and river transport, in particular the new highway 1A linking Hanoi and Lang Son. Power and water supply and communication facilities have been upgraded to meet the demand of investors.

The province has greatly improved the investment environment with preferential treatment and has actively gained assistance from the government, related ministries and agencies in attracting investment. In the first eight months of 2005, 13 local investment projects have been licensed with registered capital of US$3.4 million, increasing to a total of 244 projects in five years and investment capital of US$38.6 million. However, it still falls short of the province’s potential.

In 2006-2010, the province targets a GDP growth rate of 11 per cent. So far, industry and handicraft have been promoted. Phase 1 of Dinh Tram IZ on 101 hectares has been completed and 28 projects licensed. Song Khe - Noi Hoang IZ of 240 hectares has 17 projects licensed. Dong Vang automobile complex is under construction on 40 hectares. The province is calling for investments in Van Trung IZ (240 hectares) and Quang Chau IZ (490 hectares).

Bac Giang extends its warmest welcome to local and foreign investors. The province will create a most favourable and attractive, safe and reliable investment environment with the slogan “a red carpet to welcome investors and special treatment for men of talent.” In addition to State policy, the province will apply special treatment to specific projects. The authorities of the province at all levels are fully committed to assisting investors and together with them removing all constraints and difficulties.

With advantages in potential and policy, we believe that Bac Giang is an ideal destination for local and foreign investors. We consider the success of investors as our own and hope that the investors will gain big profit in the province.
