Vietnam-China Trade Fair in Lao Cai Province

Vietnam-China Trade Fair 2005 will be held in Lao Cai on November 2-6, 2005 under the sponsorship of the Vietnam Trade Ministry, Lao Cai People’s Committee and Yunan province (China), with over 500 pavilions including over 160 pavilions belonging to Chinese enterprises.
 
According to Mr Nguyen Ngoc Kim, Lao Cai Vice-Chairman and Head of the Organising Committee, the fair will include a trade fair, Lao Cai e-transaction floor www.laocai.com.vn Lao Cai e-portal www.laocai.gov.vn, an international seminar, a job fair, a signing ceremony for economic contracts, cultural activities, gastronomy, tours of Lao Cai - Yunan, and an exhibition on cooperation between Lao Cai - Yunan and Vietnam-China.
 
Since 2001, the international trade fairs have been organised by rotation between Lao Cai and Hekou (China). In 2001, the trade fair in Lao Cai was attended by 94 enterprises with 144 pavilions (including 31 Chinese enterprises with 28 pavilions) and contracts were valued at over US$20 million. In the 2003 fair, there were 307 enterprises and 360 pavilions ( 91 Chinese enterprises with 88 pavilions) and contract value of over US$50 million.
 
In line with the policy of the two governments on developing the Yunan-Lao Cai-Hanoi-Haiphong economic corridor, the trade fair plays an important role, increasing the two-way trade value from US$106 million in 2001 to US$400 million in 2005, average growth rate of 33.5 per cent a year, foreign investment up by 17.5 per cent and tourism by 28 per cent.
