Go Cong Dong, having earned recognition from the Prime Minister for meeting new rural development standards, exhibits an effort to achieve advanced new rural development benchmarks

Promoting marine economic advantages

As the eastern gateway of Tien Giang province, Go Cong Dong district is located between two estuaries - Cua Soai Rap and Cua Tieu. Waterway and road transportation is quite convenient as the district is 41km from the administrative center of Tien Giang province and 58km from Ho Chi Minh City. These favorable conditions have facilitated marine economic development and made the district a driving economic region of the province and a catalyst of domestic and foreign trade.

Mr. Le Van Son, Chairman of the Go Cong Dong People's Committee, said: Defining aquaculture and commercial fishing is one of key economic sectors, Go Cong Dong has concentrated on shifting aquaculture and commercial fishing of marine products from traditional methods to high-tech industrial methods; stimulated sustainable seafood farming and commercial fishing models; and boosted production links in various cooperation forms. The district established 32 commercial fishing cooperatives in Kieng Phuoc, Tan Phuoc communes and Vam Lang town, with nearly 200 fishermen.

Additionally, the district eagerly developed Tan Thanh-Hang Duong beach tourism area; build an eco-tourism resort combined with garden economy to utilize tourism products such as community sightseeing and eco-sea resort. Furthermore, seaport, processing and mechanical engineering are also among advantageous industries.

After the first half of the current term of executing the resolution of the 12th District Party Congress (2020-2025 term), Go Cong Dong district achieved positive results. The average added value rose 6.8% a year in 2020-2023. Structurally, in 2023, agriculture, fishery and forestry accounted for 45.8%, industry and construction for 27.3%, and services for 29.6%. Total investment capital for social development was VND5,720 billion in 2021-2023, equal to 57.4% of the target of VND15,280 billion stated in the resolution.

The district channels focused efforts toward substantial infrastructure investments, driving socioeconomic development and new rural development

Speeding up infrastructure development and investment attraction

According to the report of the District Steering Committee for New Rural Development, by the end of 2023, all 11 communes of Go Cong Dong basically maintained all 19 new rural development criteria, with seven communes accredited to meet advanced new rural development standards (Tan Dong, Binh Nghi, Tan Tay, Tang Hoa, Tan Thanh, Binh An and Tan Phuoc). The district achieved three out of nine 9 criteria (25 out of 38 targets) and strived to fulfil Criterion No. 1 on Planning and Criterion No. 6 on Economy to bring its fulfilment target to five out of nine new rural development criteria (31 out of 38 targets). Doing so, this will create a solid foundation for achieving remaining criteria and targets in 2024.

In the coming time, while further boosting communications to raise public awareness of the role, meaning and importance of new rural development and working with the spirit of “New rural development has a starting point but has no ending point”, the district will actively mobilize all resources, especially socialized resources, for achieving advanced/model new rural development standards and satisfy the demand for freight and passenger transportation for socioeconomic development. Go Cong Dong will accelerate infrastructure construction in coastal eco-industrial zones attractive to investors to effectively use resources, especially high-quality human resources; and solve environmental and social problems and improve people's life quality.

Marine economy and agricultural production are strong fields of Go Cong Dong

Particularly, the province concentrated on traffic projects approved by the provincial government, including Provincial Road 864 along the Tien River through Go Cong Dong district (14.06km long), the road to eastern industrial zones; the road from Vam Lang Town's seafood wholesale market to District Road 10. Moreover, the district upgraded the road surface and drainage system of Provincial Road 871 and Provincial Road 862.

Additionally, Go Cong Dong asked the Department of Transport to propose the Provincial People's Committee to carry out four investment projects (a total estimated investment capital of VND164.5 billion), including extended District Road 02 + three bridges (a bridge over the dyke in Hamlet 3, a bridge in Gong 6 Hamlet, and a bridge in Gong 11 Hamlet), lighting systems for 07, 08, 08B, 09 and 10 district roads and sea dyke; extended District Road 05B (the section from Provincial Road 862 to District Road 08) and Provincial Road 871.

In the span of 2021-2023, Go Cong Dong district allocated VND310.61 billion across 250 traffic infrastructure projects. Notably, the District Land Fund Development and Project Management Unit spearheaded 81 ventures, commanding VND224.04 billion, including two district roads (District Road 05 and District Road 01), five urban road projects, five traffic infrastructure projects, three rural bridges, and an impressive 66 rural traffic projects. It strived to ensure timely completion while upholding stringent standards of quality, technical precision, and aesthetic finesse. These endeavors align seamlessly with the resolution of the 11th Provincial Party Congress (2020 - 2025 term), rejuvenating the Tien Giang infrastructure system.

The district is seriously drawing industrial, commercial and tourism investment projects like building Soai Rap Petroleum Services Industrial Park and inviting secondary investors to Gia Thuan 1 and 2 industrial complexes. The district is also attracting investment capital for wind power, green hydrogen production, logistics port, economic zones, industrial zones, coastal ecological urban areas, residential, trade and service areas along the roadsides of Provincial Road 871B at the final section linked to Gia Thuan 1 Industrial Complex, and Tan Dien Smart Urban Area.

Siding with companies and investors, the district government is committed to supporting, removing difficulties and obstacles and facilitating investors to study and locate their investment projects in the district. Site clearance is always a major concern of the District People's Committee to hand over the land to investment projects soon to enable investors to carry out and complete their projects as planned.
