Korean Expo Opens in Hanoi

The Korean Products Made in Vietnam Expo 2005 opened yesterday at the Giang Vo Exhibition & Fair Center in Hanoi on the occasion of the 13th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Vietnam.
 
The Expo, being held from December 8-12, is jointly organized by the Embassy of the RoK in Vietnam and the Vietnam Trade and Fair Exhibition Center (Vinasat) under the Ministry of Trade.
 
Addressing at the opening ceremony, South Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Kim Eui-ki said the expo would help increase cooperation between the two countries, which share good relations and have similar cultures, at many levels from the economic and political to the social and cultural.
 
Around 22 Korean companies and joint-ventures in Vietnam are showcasing their products, including garments, confectionery, electronics, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and home appliances, at the expo.
 
Two-way trade turnover between the two countries has increased to $3.9 billion in 2004 from $2.75 billion in 2002. So far this year, South Korea has exported $3.6 billion worth of products to Vietnam and paid $750 million for imports from the country.
 
South Korea has invested $5.4 billion in 1,400 projects in Vietnam, ranking it the fourth among 74 major foreign investors in Vietnam.
