Hanoi Telecom: First Provider of 3G Technology in Vietnam

Hanoi Telecom will be the first to provide CDMA2000 3G service in Vietnam. The company is under intensive preparation for the new service.
 
Hanoi Telecom is a joint stock company with two founding members: HTI and Hanel. On December 9, 2005, Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park Management Board, Hanoi Telecom and two foreign partners: BBC project of CDMA2000 3G and 3GDC started the building of an international complex NG-ICT on an area of 35 hectares (Phase 1) in Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park. Hanoi Telecom will invest in the building of the infrastructure. Mr Pham Ngoc Lang, Chairman of Hanoi Telecom Management Board said: “We will build 10 sections for research and development, experiment and production of hi-tech products for telecommunication and information technology”. By mid-2006, Hanoi Telecom will provide the most attractive network of CDMA2000 3G of ITU standard with data and image of 2.4 MBs, then 3.1 MBs of version A, high-speed Internet, and RF card service.
 
“We will apply various forms of investments to accelerate the implementation and attract more resources, technology and capital” Mr Lang added.
 
A BBC project between Hanoi Telecom and Hutchison Telecommunication S.A.R.L on mobile network CDMA2000 3G endorsed by the Prime Minister and licensed by the Ministry of Planning and Investment is valued at US$655.9 million and for a period of 15 years. It will be a nation-wide mobile communication network and the first to apply 3G technology in Vietnam.
 
In preparation for the project, Hanoi Telecom has established 3GDC centre in co-operation with Qualcom group (USA) for the training and transfer of CDMA technology. Qualcom will invest in Brew lab developing software by Brew technology and help connect 3GDC with Qualcom research establishments and universities.
 
According to Ms Trinh Minh Chau, Hanel Director, Hanoi Telecom will co-operate with television stations to provide TV programmes on mobile telephone with best competitive price in the interests of the users.
