Phu Yen has great potential for the development of tourism: picturesque landscapes, beautiful beaches and forests, tangible and intangible cultural heritage sites, rich seafood resources and a diverse range of gastronomy. The province is determined to tap the existing resources to develop an efficient and sustainable tourist sector.
Potential
Phu Yen has a long coast of 190 km dotted with mountains creating magnificent natural landscapes such as lakes of O Loan and Cu Mong, Xuan Dai bay, Ro cove, with sea tourism centres like Long Thuy, Nui Thom, Hon Chua, Bai Xep, etc. The potentials are available from upstream in Hinh reservoir to dozens of ideal beaches as Bang, Nom, Tram, Xep, Mon, Long Thuy. The province is also famous with Dien cape, the easternmost point receiving the first sun rays of dawn in Vietnam.
Phu Yen is rich in historical and cultural relics including 13 relics of national standards, primitive stone musical instruments dated back to 2,500 years ago, craft villages, diversified ethnic culture, valuable assets for tourism and scientific research.
Development orientation
Phu Yen has launched a promotion program on tourism at home and abroad, taken part in international exhibitions and fairs, cultural festivals, workshops on tourism development, with 1,500 CD-Rom on business and investment opportunities, website and brochures introducing the potential of the province.
The province has combined cultural development with traditional festivals, upgraded cultural and historical relics and restored ethnic and folk cultures. The province has 80 newly registered businesses involved in tourism such as hotels, restaurants, recreation centres, eco-tourism, and transport. So far, Phu Yen has 41 projects with a total area of 850 hectares, registered capital of VND1,400 billion and US$21 million. In addition, the province also encourages investments in the development of craft villages and commercial centres.
Tourism as an important economic sector
In its development plan, Phu Yen considers tourism as an important economic sector. In 2006-2010, the province targets a growth rate of 28 per cent a year in the number of tourists and 27% in foreign tourists.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam, Director of Phu Yen Trade – Tourism Department, the province will implement five projects to attract more investments in the development of infrastructure for tourism in Tuy Hoa city (Long Thuy, Bai Xep, Nui Thom, Hon Chua), along Cau river (Bai Mon, Mui Dien, Hon Nua), hot spring areas (Triem Duc, Phu Sen), etc.
Phu Yen, with great potential and high priority, welcomes investors to tap the resources and develop tourism especially during the time of regional and world integration.
