A festival promoting tourism in the southern province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau will take place from February 24 until the end of Tet (lunar New Year), organizers said, hoping to attract a large number of visitors and draw attention from prospective investors to the region’s tourism potential.

The event will open with cannon fire, followed by announcements regarding investment projects and musical performances at the Nghinh Phong Cape. Other activities will take place both in Vung Tau City and other areas of the province.

According to Ho Van Nien, deputy Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, “It’s not only a golden opportunity to attract visitors to the region, it also provides food for thought to investors who may not know what the area has to offer. Local authorities and businesses alike should actively take part in the event.”

“Preparatory works for the festival are carefully underway,” Nien said, adding that all will be finished before the event starts.

Ba Ria – Vung Tau, where the most costly sea festival in Vietnam was held in 2006, now has around 100 hotels and villas, and restaurants with 7,000 rooms. Among them, more than 4,000 rooms reaching international standards and many three-to four-star hotels. Specifically, the province opened 18 new tourist sites and 10 new hotels to better serve tourists.

The southern province also boasts more than 200 travel businesses, three times the figure in 2000. It draws more than 4 million tourists each year. (Labour, Liberated Saigon)
