Can Tho to Invest US$210Mln in Trade Projects until 2020

Can Tho City, the largest city in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam, will spend up to VND3.36 trillion (US$210 million) to construct and upgrade trade works from now until 2020, said municipal authorities.
 
With the money, the municipal authorities will build a big regional trade center on an area of 11ha, supermarkets level 2 and 3 in Ninh Kieu, Binh Thuy, O Mon, Cai Rang, Tho Not, Co Do, Phong Dien and Vinh Thanh districts, and develop markets in rural areas.
 
The city will also pour investment in upgrading the international exhibition center and four current supermarkets in Ninh Kieu district.
 
The plan aims to realize the city’s target of obtaining an annual growth rate of retail sales and goods services at 25 per cent till 2010 and value at VND28 trillion (US$1.75 billion) in 2010, VND142.1 trillion (US$8.88 billion) in 2020.
 
Can Tho also aims for a yearly export growth rate of 23 per cent during 2007-2010 period, 24 per cent in 2011-2015 period and 21 per cent in 2016-2020 period with estimated export turnover of US$1 billion in 2010, US$3 billion in 2015 and US$7.3 billion in 2020.
 
ASEAN, China, Japan, South Korea, the EU and the US will be the city’s key export markets. (People’s Army, Vietnam & World Economy)
