A Vietnamese delegation of seafood producers and exporters will participate in Busan International Seafood & Fisheries EXPO 2007 (BISFE) slated for November 15-18 in an effort to boost up seafood export at international market.

BISFE is the biggest seafood expo in South Korea and arranged annually in Busan city, where the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (Vasep) has registered for 36sq.m to display products.

South Korea is now among four biggest seafood importers of Vietnam in addition to EU, Japan and the U.S.

In 2006, 323 Vietnamese enterprises exported 84,000 tons of seafood valued at US$210.3 million to South Korea, accounting for 6.37 per cent out of US$3.3 billion Vietnam notched up from the product.

South Korea last month asked foreign exporters to check Malachite Green standard on all aquaculture of fresh and frozen tortoise and fish, and Sulfur Dioxide standard on fresh and frozen crabs whiling shipping products to the country.

The country has so far this year imported around US$133.35 million worth of seafood from Vietnam, up 21.68 per cent on year and accounting for 6.71 per cent of Vietnam’s total seafood export revenue.

Vietnam is expected to export US$3.6 billion worth of seafood products by the end of 2007. (Vietnam & World Economy)
