Foreign importers want to appoint Vietnamese small-and medium-sized apparel companies as their trade representatives in the country, the Saigon Liberation newspaper reported.

The move follows the trend of shifting the production and import of textiles and garments from China to Vietnam in recent time.

A number of prestigious small and medium-sized textile and garment enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City have been proposed by many partners from France, the U.S. and Guatemala.

U.S importers have shifted their textile and garment orders to Vietnam from China since the beginning of the year, according to Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association.

The textile and garment sector is now Vietnam’s second largest forex earner behind crude oil. It targets to make export revenues of US$9.5 billion this year, and US$11.5 billion in 2009 to surpass crude oil to take the lead. (Liberation Saigon)
